Complementary red shade of lipstick 'must be found'
10 December 2010 11:59
Women looking to have a dependable lipstick when boosting themselves in a compact mirror must make sure they have a shade of red to work with, it has been stated.
Make-up artist Troy Surratt told Allure magazine that different shades have a variety of purposes and said: "If you want to try something trendy, orange-red lips are popular right now and look especially amazing on women with blue eyes--the contrast is so pretty."
He explained that in terms of skin tone, orange-red works on nearly everyone but it has the tendency to bring out any yellow colourations in teeth. If you want to play it safe instead, he continued, a blue-based red is the "most universally flattering".
Women with fair skin and platinum hair like Gwen Stefani can benefit from this look, Mr Surratt said, while others with warmer medium skin and dark brown hair look "stunning" in the shade.
Speaking to E! Online this week, country singer Taylor Swift said she is a big fan of having red lipstick, pairing it with bold eyeliner and a hint of eyeshadow for her perfect look.
